High performance at a reasonable price, December 26, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase In my daily activities, I cover a wide variety of terrain types (urban, forest, snow, etc.). Thus, there are several features which I require in any pair of boots. These boots combine three of the most important of these features: (1) waterproof, (2) insulated, (3) breathable. Few combat boots have all three of these features.
The waterproofing is an especially useful feature. Besides obviously keeping my feet dry in rainy weather, it's useful in forest terrain where it allows me to walk right through streams and shallow rivers.
The Gore-Tex lining makes the boots breathable, which keeps your feet dry even after wearing the boots for long periods of time. The 200g Thinsulate insulation is pretty effective at keeping your feet warm, although in below-freezing conditions it's best to wear socks made of synthetic wool. (I've worn these boots for up to 8 hours at temperatures down to 10�F/-12�C, and they've performed quite well.)

This was my first pair of GX-8 Gortex and I could not be happier. They fit great, are very comforatable. Right out of the box they were ready to go with only a little bit of break in time. I know they want x amount of words in these reviews but I just have never been unhappy with any product I have ever purchased from Bates Boot Company.

As far as comfort, feels like I am not wearing anything on my feet, but my feet are still very well supported. I have a high arch and heel pain is a problem with some shoes/boots - not these! No pain, just comfort.
Pros: warm, waterproof, VERY comfortable, light weight, good looks, great price
Cons: MADE IN CHINA! Could use a pull up tab on the back of the boot to help get them on easier. Don't slide on as easily as I expected. Boot is a little low for my uses.
